Catherine Frisby
Psychodynamic Counsellor
I have spent my adult life working in caring and therapeutic roles, supporting people through periods of challenge, change, and uncertainty. While studying, I worked as a nursing assistant before qualifying as a social worker in my early twenties. I went on to work in both hospital and community settings, gaining extensive experience supporting individuals with a wide range of emotional and practical difficulties.
I later completed a BACP-accredited training in psychodynamic counselling, validated by the University of Surrey. Since qualifying, I have spent more than a decade practising as a counsellor in both private practice and agency settings, accumulating many thousands of hours of clinical experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds and with a broad range of concerns.
My experience has deepened my understanding of the complexity of people’s lives and importance of offering a thoughtful, consistent, and compassionate therapeutic relationship.
I continue to develop my practice through regular supervision and ongoing professional training, working in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
Beginning counselling for the first time can feel daunting and often takes considerable courage. I offer a calm, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly and at your own pace.
My approach
My approach is grounded in psychodynamic counselling, which explores how past experiences and unconscious patterns can influence the way we think, feel, and relate to others. Central to this work is the therapeutic relationship itself, offering a safe and supportive space in which deeper understanding and change can emerge. Together, we will explore recurring patterns and gently consider what may be holding you back, helping you develop greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and more fulfilling ways of relating.
